March 19, 2025 Tracking Class

Make up class today was at Cool Water. I was with different classmates and it was fun getting to see new teams track! Today we focused on track laying. Utilizing double lines ups and natural ground markers. Laying blind turns. We also reviewed some drills that can be done over the summer.  

Finwe's Track was 272 yards with 2 blind turns. Scent pads were used at the start and after each turn. He is back to struggling with starting. A bit frustrating since I thought we were passed it! He will approach the start flag without hesitation. Then he stops and just kind of wanders and looks around. It takes him a few minutes to realize "okay, we are tracking". Once he got going he had a great first turn. During the second turn the track was somewhat misplaced. So he wandered about. Judi kept mentioning watching for loss of scent. He eventually found the track and did a great article pick up.
