December 7th

Laid out 4 articles. A faux leather and foam insert from my motorcycle helmet, white earmuffs, a scarf tied in a knot and a leather glove. For the most part in the beginning he wasn’t too interested in the dead random articles. I had treats out ready to go for any type of interaction with them though. He then started picking up the ear muffs and the scarf. Not too much interest in the other two items. We have played with the leather glove in the past so I was surprised he was reluctant to pick it up.

Eventually I rubbed a bit of cheese on the helmet insert so he would at least put it in his mouth and then I would give him a treat. This was not on video. I am trying to encourage him picking the items up now, then hoping eventually to move up to him handing me the article. Or is that even needed?

  1. This is great work. You made progress!! I love the pick up and bring to hand—at a test, when you’re anxious, you’ll get a pick up as your minimum. I love the progress you made!

  2. progress is being made! pay attention to your command to pick up - is it pick up, get it, grab it.....pick one. have you tried to shape this behavior inside with his supper waiting on the counter?
