November 29th
Today we started with two tracks at my house. Then our third track for the day was at my friends property in Surry. We had a small sighthound meet up since she has 6 acres fenced. After Fin got some running in I set a track there.

Track 1
10 feet and I used left over pork from Thanksgiving. Spaced 6-8 inches apart. He was very distracted. He kept looking up and actively sniffing. I am not sure if he was sniffing for the food/track or something else. I waited him out, he started again and then went back to sniffing the air. Waited him out again. Then he started again on his own and finished up the track.
Track 2
25 feet and the food was spaced wider apart, 10-12 inches. He did much better this time, a lot less distracted. A bit of veering but nothing too extreme.
Track 3
30 feet long and I ended up using some sausage treats since I had forgotten my pork! He didn’t seem to have any trouble wanting the treats thankfully. I started the food close together and gradually spaced it further apart. He had some other dogs to distract him but overall he did pretty well staying straight and ignoring them.

What a good boy! It’s hard to track with friends ‘helping!’
ReplyDeletei thought he did well on #2 and really well on #3 with his friends free on the other side of the fence. one thing you need to stop is 'pointing at the ground' - if you don't think he is going to start at the flag, you can always have two treats and toss them at the base of the flag. so it is like loading a few more treats on top of the four or five you placed at the flag when you laid the track. make sure he is watching when you toss. he will soon get the idea and not need that extra toss on top, but pointing will be hard to break if you don't stop it now.
